Job Overview
Our company based in Zimbabwe, Africa, is seeking an experienced Product Development Chemist to guide us in formulating and preparing water treatment products using Sodium Hypochlorite. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the safe dilution and use of bulk, high-concentration Sodium Hypochlorite for human consumption. This position is remote and on a short-term contract basis.
Responsibilities & Deliverables
1. Assess the current high-concentration Sodium Hypochlorite we’ve sourced and provide guidance on storage, handling, and safety.
2. Design and recommend a formulation procedure to dilute the high-concentration Sodium Hypochlorite to appropriate levels suitable for household and commercial water treatment.
3. Provide guidelines for testing and quality control to ensure the final product meets all international and national standards for potable water disinfection.
4. Offer expertise on packaging and storing the final product, ensuring its efficacy and shelf-life.
5. Highlight and define risks and considerations for transportation of the product in its final product format.
6. Deliver the above considerations in a single document and collaborate with our internal team to address any questions or concerns, ensuring a clear understanding of the formulation and useable product manufacturing processes.
7. Outline a Safety Data Sheet for each of the product(s) defined (I.e. household or bulk iterations)
Qualifications
A degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Proven experience in product development, preferably in water treatment chemicals or related industries.
Strong understanding of Sodium Hypochlorite as a water disinfectant, including its properties, potential hazards, and safe handling procedures.
Familiarity with international and national standards related to potable water treatment and disinfection.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work remotely.
